La ciudadela or citadel was a militrary fortress

Pamplona is a vibrant city with lots of places to visit and things to do. One of the first places we went to after arriving in Pamplona was the old part of the city where the city hall is located. Pamplona's city hall is one of the oldest and prettiest city halls in all of Spain and also serves as the official center point that welcomes people for the San Fermin festival that starts in July. La ciudadela is an old citadel created in the 16th century that can be found in the center of the city. La ciudadela now serves as a park. The park features hundreds of acres of green space as well as many of the original buildings that were used to hold weapons. These buildings now host art exhibits as well as concerts. The final picture is one of the main plaza in Pamplona the Plaza del Castillo. Completed in the late 16th century this plaza is a popular hangout spot for the people of Pamplona. There are a number of restaurants and shops lining this plaza as well as many benches and tables for people to use for chats. One of the most popular restaurants in this plaza, Cafe Iruna, was also a favorite restaurant of the late Ernest Hemingway who spent a lot of time in Pamplona.
